Parental Control With the never-ending rise in popularity of the web, children are becoming
ever more exposed to inappropriate online content. Whether it's offensive
language, racial or ethnic intolerance, adult content or violence, it's very
easy for children to end up at a site containing unsuitable material - no
matter how innocent their intentions were.
Preventing our children from viewing this type of content has traditionally
relied on maintaining a database of inappropriate sites on the user's PC,
but this type of system is only ever as up-to-date as the latest update,
so inevitably, some sites will be missed. Using an innovative approach
to this problem, Esprit Software was tasked with providing software
that would afford real-time protection to users in a completely
unobtrusive and transparent manner.
The system provides mechanisms to allow parents to control access, initially
based on user age-ratings, but configurable down to allowing or blocking
individual sites. This way, complete control has been handed back to the
parents.
